Hey.
First time poster here :)
I was wondering, I'm a DM for a fairly new D&D group (3.5 edition) and I was wondering have you guys ever had a problem with a person in your group who shows barely interest in the game and keeps trying to take over the role of DM? and keeps talking ooc during sessions?
How did you deal with him/her?

My dnd history
Hi Everyone,

My name is Dave and I started playing dnd five years ago (2nd edition although I have played 3.5 too). First character was Legolas, an elven paladin. He eventually became a demigod after we accidentally killed 13 members of the Norse pantheon! (Funny story!) I have also played Ellesar, an elven fighter, another elven paladin (for 3.5, but I forget his name), Thrlyona, an elven magic user/thief and currently Brudar, a dwarven cleric who is a religious zealot, convinced he has been sent by Moradin to eliminate the orcs from the face of the earth. Probably my favorite character since the gamemaster gave him a periapt of wound closure, so he tends to use his face as shield. When sliced wide open, Brudar merely smiles and when an orc is about to die, he yells out in orc, "Feel the wrath of Moradin." Anyway, with a charisma of 5, his scars have scars!

The first campaign I played in lasted 3 years at roughly 3 nights of 4 hours of game play per week. I have been writing those early adventures into novels. (1 written, 1 started, 6 planned thus far). A short story prequel has been accepted for publication slated to come out this summer. One publisher asked me to write a prequel novel since I have 2 trilogies planned to date. I have that about 65% done.

If anyone in this group is going to the Midsouth Con in Memphis in March, I will running the intro to the first novel as a 6th level dnd campaign. The local writer's group started playing dnd (once a month after the writer's meeting) and so I decided to run a "fun" campaign to help the newbies flourish. My gamemaster will be playing too so I have devised a variation which should catch him off guard as well (I hope!)

New to the community
Hello there! One or two quick words to introduce myself, now that I finally found a community to join :-p
I love role play and especially d&d. I've been playing for three years with a group of round about my age.Currently I'm on DM duties :) It's too bad I can't find many people that know the dnd rues here where I live. So far I've managed to find only one role player... The rest, I had to "teach" them the basics :-p

I enjoy playing caster classes, preferred one being the Bard. More than anything, I enjoy role play. Not leveling up :-p

Anyway, happy to be here :)

An interesting session
I thought everyone here would enjoy this.  And I should say now that for here out until I say otherwise, "I" refers to my character Mak Rognara, a 16 Ranger/4 Horizon Walker.
After updating everyone with the loot they wanted since we now have Dragon Mountain to ourselves, he decided to do some one-on-one campaigning with me.  I got sent to the City of Doors by my diety, Mielikki.  Always happy to oblige, I accepted the challenge to get through the city before I ran out of hit points (life).  On the way I had some sort of connection with Kyle's Druid back in Dragon Mtn. who had a connection with Mielikki, our deity.  Eventually I found this cat, whom I decided to call kitty until I could come up with a better name to call her.  Eventually, after figuring out some doors, we got through to the door that would lead me and kitty back to Dragon Mountain.  I had agreed earlier to take care of the cat and protect her to the best of my abilities and take her back if at all possible.  So after figuring out a riddle that kept myself, Denshar (Kyle's Druid), and kitty from being turned into doors in the city, I was allowed to pass through the final door that allowed kitty and I to go back.  When I get there, I find out that the cat has now been bonded to me as a Planar Familiar/Companion and it's name is permanently Kitty.  It has a few extra skills outside of the normal cat including being able to allow me to go between planes.  Which I just know is going to be very, very useful in the upcoming campaign.  Also I have gained 4 levels in Horizon Walker putting me at a level 16 Ranger and a level 8 Horizon Walker.  Another thing is that I have aged 14 years in the time it took me to get through this trial.
Back to "I" referring to myself, that little adventure took up about 4 hours of game time and Mak's Hit Points went from 200 to 22.  Luckily, thanks to her deity, she'll be fine by the time we play again.  But now I've got a character that I'm not sure how to update.  She's epic level all together, but neither class is epic level by itself.  And I need to check with Lynn on details for Kitty.  When I made Mak up, I didn't want to have a familiar.  But Lynn knew just the right way to add one that I really liked.  I have never been so relieved that a character survived.

Newbie!!!
Hi there! I just joined the group today! Right now I'm playing with my friends in my first campaign ever! I had always been slightly interested in D&D, but it always helps that my finace was a DM in high school and 3 other friends DM also. When I remember to I'll post my character pic, I like to draw them. And something you all will probably enjoy: From our last night of gaming, our Dwarf looked at our Elf and said......... "Toss me!" But we were trying to get in through a stone door and he thought he could break it down if he was used. Didn't work. But it was really funny! :D

Hello dearies! I wonder if you could recommend me to any good websites that carry D&D merch like clothing. Also any websites with good prices on booster packs. ^_^ Any help you can give me is much appreciated!
Geekette out ♥

And a little bit about my roleplaying. At my house, every Thursday and Sunday we play Dungeons. Fridays at my friend's gaming store is Magic. And every other night or so we play the PS2 game Champions of Norrath. ^_^

kronosphere
kronosphere is looking for a few good PC's. Our story is one of exploration. The PC's have either grown up or otherwise found themselves in a land that has not been fully mapped, due to severe harassment from local orc and goblin tribes. Although the cities and towns are ethnicly mixed, there are tribes of elves, and a clan of dwarves that are autonomous, and do not necessarily co-operate with the city the PC's are from.

Currently, the PC's have taken up a job with the dwarven nation to find out if rumours of a city deep in un-charted territory are true or false, and to make contact/trade/diplomatic relations with them if possable.

If you are interested in taking part in such a campaign, we invite you to join us. We are looking for serious players who are willing to post at least once a day.

[ladytogami]
Hello
Well, since I'm new here I'll begin by taking the liberty to introduce myself. My pen name is Lady Togami. I've been playing D&D for about a year and a half. I have been DMing about 9 months of that. I very much enjoy playing but since college began the group I used to play with hasn't talked more or less gotten together to play. I mis it but Im trying to find a new group to play that is based out of my college but so far I have been unsuccessful. Oh well.

Anyway, I am going to post a discussion, I suppose it can be called that. If it bothers anyone let me know and I'll get rid of it or someone else can get rid of it. It's for a paper and I just want to see what people think about it and have to say.

So help me along here, I want as many opinions as I can get on this. Obviously you can tell which side I'm on on this one seeing as I've been playing for a while and love every moment.

"During the 1980’s the newly established industry and youth sub-culture associated with Role-playing games came under sustained attack from schools, churches, parents and governments, instigated by the Christian Right via organizations such as B.A.D.D. (Bothered About Dungeon’s and Dragons)." Excerpt from http://www.3rdedition.org/articles/viewer.asp?ID=67

A while back, there were some Politicians who were fighting to have D&D banned in their counties, states and some even pushed the limits to say it should be banned in all of the United States. Some wanted it banned from everyone and some people said it should only be banned on people under 18. Eventually this criticism grew to include people from all over the world.

Research question: Should D&D be banned from people under 18?

What are your opinions on this matter (yes, it can differ) and if you have a specific reason why (beyond playing D&D) please tell me. I won't put names in my paper unless you specifically tell me I can and in which case send me a message or email me.
